Associates in Ophthalmology is proud to be one of the first medical offices in NJ to offer laser cataract surgery with the Catalys® Precision Laser System. Catalys® presents a new standard in precision cataract surgery, providing a highly customized, gentle cataract procedure which offers precision not previously possible with other manual techniques.
What is Catalys®?
Catalys® is a new FDA market cleared medical device that is used to perform the highest quality of cataract procedures. Developed by Silicon Valley-based Optimedica Corp., Catalys® features a state-of-the-art laser, advanced 3D imaging, and many other innovative features to help bring you the very best in laser cataract removal.
How does the procedure work and what are the steps?
Every person’s eye is unique, with its own individual size and shape. Therefore, Catalys® uses advanced technology to build a 3D map of each eye and tailor specific treatment to that map. This allows surgeons to create a customized treatment plan that matches the specific landscape of your eyes.
Next, Catalys® is used to create a circular opening to remove the cataract. Studies have shown that using Catalys® to create this opening is nearly 10 times more accurate than when the procedure is performed manually. 1,2 Finally, Catalys® helps to soften the hard cataract and break it into very small pieces for easy, gentle removal. 3
Depending on the condition of your pre-operative vision and each individual’s own vision goals, we may also recommend a treatment plan, completely customized to you, that could include creating very precise laser incisions in the cornea and a specific clear lens type, such as a multi-focal lens. This tailored treatment may reduce the need for glasses or contacts after surgery.
What are the other benefits of Catalys®?
A highly customizable procedure using advanced 3D imaging
Little to no discomfort
Increased accuracy and precision
A faster recovery time due to reduced inflammation
The opportunity to receive tailored treatment with advanced technology multi-focal lenses, which may reduce the need for glasses or contacts after surgery.
